Art-cade art gallery

The ART-CADE Association was founded by Anne Marie Pecheur and Jean Baptiste Audat in 1993 and is located at the very heart of the city of Marseille. It is a place where people can meet, exchange and experiment on the theme of art exhibitions and various cultural events. This former public baths’ establishment has now become a well-recognised exhibition centre and year after year hosts projects of emerging and established artists.

Art cade is a non-profit organisation which conducts an overall project in its very special location, bringing into play contemporary works of art that call into question the very process of creation.

Being situated in the city of Marseille signifies a deep involvement of the Association with young artists, and makes it possible to offer an open space, encourage encounters and develop a place for critique.
Since its foundation in 1993, Art cade has brought together guest artists from different countries in its special location in the port city of Marseille.

The artists who founded the Association intended to set up an active platform, stating a modernity composed of various currents and different worlds.

The challenge has been successful over the past twenty years: music, performances, readings, culinary art, exhibitions, urban walks, exhibitions beyond the city walls (Archist nomadic galleries), all disciplines: photo, video, painting, installations...

For the past three years, Art cade’s year is organised to the rhythm of:
  • Archist Paysage, in the spring every year, Art cade invites a curator to compose an exhibition which takes a stand on the question of ‘art/architecture/countryside’, within the framework of the Spring of Contemporary Art.
  • L’Autre Bord, at the end of the year, Art cade invites a curator who specialises in international topics.

Another form also exists, between these mainstays (research, quality, involvement of critique): meetings with young creators organised by the Association’s bureau, composed of artists and architects. The schools of art of Marseille and Aix en Provence often take part in these workshops, where interdisciplinary creations and exhibitions, organised by several artists, confront artworks and generate continuous dynamics.

Art cade’s asset also resides in its open/closed location, the grands bains douches de la Plaine gallery, with its garden, where people can come together in numbers and diverse forms of art emerge.
